Husqvarna Prices – Husqvarna Succumbs to Trade War Costs

Husqvarna prices (and others I’m sure) — If you have been shopping around for lawn equipment or other outdoor power equipment, heed the economic indications of the current trade war.

We received a notification via email regarding Husqvarna prices on the increase today.

Raw materials for equipment production have risen in cost. This is not just a Husqvarna thing. Other companies, including car companies have made, or will make similar adjustments. More expensive materials for equipment and parts means US businesses will increase prices as their costs rise. Those businesses can pass on the increased costs to consumers or shrink costs in other areas. Husqvarna prices have remained the same in lieu of rising costs so far, as they’ve creatively absorbed the hit.

The Husqvarna Prices Email Stated

extraordinary economic changes are causing significant cost increases in supply chains nationwide. These changes include: (1) significant inflation in the cost of materials and components needed to make our products, specifically steel and aluminum (arising largely from tariffs implemented earlier this year); (2) the impact of other import tariffs (which are in effect as of this date); and (3) to a lesser degree, the increasing freight costs due to many factors, including driver shortages, regulatory changes, and rising fuel costs.
All of these have resulted in significant inflationary pressure. By one report, manufacturers experienced incremental cost inflation in the range of 2% over just sixty days. While Husqvarna has acted to mitigate the impact of these significant and sudden cost increases, we are unable to continue to absorb them.
In response to these pricing pressures, please take notice that Husqvarna will be implementing a surcharge on most whole goods. This surcharge will be treated as a price increase, and the new pricing, along with new MSRPs, will be reflected in our new price list, scheduled to be released on September 1, 2018.
We will evaluate our ability to roll back this price increase in 2019 in the event we see a reversal of these 2018 price impacts. It is our hope that these cost impacts are rolled back, but if additional tariffs are implemented or inflationary pressures continue, further price increases may be necessary. We deeply regret having to communicate this message.

National Retail Federation confirms that the trade tariffs levied by USA towards other countries, specifically China, will have a ripple effect on our economy.

With tariffs against China taking effect, American consumers are one step closer to feeling the full effects of a trade war,

Matthew Shay, National Retail Federation president and CEO

If you were shopping around for lawn equipment or other outdoor power equipment, you’d best get a move on THIS MONTH.
