Let me tell you a story about legendary Spartan Mowers – very durable zero turn mowers.
Back in 1998 a strong zero turn mower was made by Robert Foster and his friend Steve Caldwell in Arkansas, when Foster was at the age of thirty-three. Since he was eight years old, Foster loved tinkering on small engines, (mowers in particular), and he was adept at dismantling and fixing broken mowers from that very young age.
He and his friend designed, built and sold a few good mowers out of Foster’s back yard, at the same time they began to build quite a reputation. In order to meet demand for their durable zero turn mowers, they had to have a larger facility for manufacturing, and to make that dream happen, Robert Foster sold of another one of his businesses. From that point onward, Bad Boy Mowers blossomed to the point where, in 2001, they built 50 mowers. As dealers lined up to sell their products, the next thing they knew, they were a world wide lawnmower company.
In 2011 Mr. Foster and his wife started a UTV company called Intimidator, which also has met with huge success. In 2015, over two thousand Intimidator UTVs were built and sold nationwide as well as around the world.
Remember that Foster always loved and lived around lawn mowers? Well, he could not stay away from them and he began tinkering with zero turn mowers again. Now, as a very, very successful equipment manufacturer and businessman, Robert Foster was right back to his roots, in his personal Arkansas garage, and he came up with the ground breaking heavy duty zero turn mower for all types of terrains, that would be also affordable. Building a world renowned zero turn mower from the ground up was nothing new for this man. He took the features and elements of leading mowers on the market, the things that really make a mower stand out, and improved upon their ride, cut, design and frame.

Foster’s new Spartan mowers launched in October 21, 2015 at the GIE Expo in Louisville, Kentucky with a proclamation from Robert that Spartan would become a household name. Fast forward to 2021, a Spartan mower is a mower that people can buy and hand down to their kids and grandkids. The years of dreaming and planning and practice and learning from mistakes are now changing the turf industry, as Spartan Mowers.
